Fashion Rules You Shouldn't Break~UNDERGARMENTS BELONG UNDERNEATH YOUR CLOTHES.

So here we go...starting a new series of posts called 'Fashion Rules You Shouldn't Break'.
They are not really rules...more things to avoid (such as plastic shoes *cough cough* crocs...).
For the first rule...visible bra straps.

This is one of my personal pet peeves...when you see someone with multiple straps from their undershirt and bra. Its tacky, sloppy and kinda gross. No one cares to see what color bra you have. Please cover it up! Most bras these days are convertible, where you can switch it to racer-back. If you don't own one of these then consider putting on a cardigan or something underneath the shirt with wider straps to cover the bra straps. Or just replace the whole shirt altogether.

Even when it comes to t-shirts I suggest slipping a camisole or tank-top underneath (this is what I personally do not matter if its a crew neck or jewel neck). Because most t-shirts are thin and you can detect the imprint of the bra which, is not so stylish, ladies.

And since were on this somewhat awkward topic why don't I touch a bit on how important it is to have a bra that fits. IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO HAVE A BRA THAT FITS. Go in for a fitting to be assured that your getting the right size. Fit is everything- especially when it comes to the perfect outfit. Buy 2 or 3 so you can alternate throughout the week.

So remember to tuck away those bra straps...people do notice.

411 On Mixing Prints

Mixing prints can look very effortless if done right. Try pairing a very graphic skirt with a subtle floral blouse or cardigan. An easy classic most women don’t consider is stripes with polka dots. Who said you couldn't do it? Put a nautical cardigan with small polka dot tank. Very simple, subtle and fresh.

I put together a few examples using polyvore.com to give you some inspiration:

The first one was very vintage...only a more daring fashionista can pull it off. (But that doesn't mean it can't be you! Just go outside your comfort zone next time your at the store and TRY EVERYTHING ON!!!)

YES.

Marie Claire: Fashion or Folly?

Ok...so here's something super-positive.....why I hate Marie Claire magazine.

NOT ENOUGH FASHION. I feel like there is so little fashion, and to much editorial stories about life. Blah!! Who wants to read about life in a fashion magazine? Sitting right next to my keyboard is the Marie Claire October 2009 issue, featuring Drew Barrymore and Ellen Page adorned in sunshine-yellow garments. I do have to say, the photograph is very nice and I love the fact that they used a grey backdrop instead of a white. As you flip though the first 15 pages you'll find the usual advertisements for hairspray, brands, stores and makeup. As you go further in, you'll find stuff you would expect in a fashion magazine. Fashion. But it's not until shortly after, you'll find disturbing images that should not even be presented in the most worldly of fashion magazines. Editorial columns on places in Africa where women are forced to be fat, botched cosmetic surgery jobs, disturbing images of women's full deformed breasts and much more. I will never buy another Marie Claire magazine again. I don't care if Audrey Hepburn is on the cover. A big disappointment, but trust me. Its such a waste of $3.50.

people are poos

yes, its true.

March 10, 2010

i think i hate you, twitter.

What, Bud. What.

So this whole fancah-smancha tea thing is on Sunday. Woo.
ACTUALLY, I love it. I haven't gone for a year....sad times. But for 2 years I would work at it....this time, the tables have turned!! We got a table!!!!

SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? New outfit. And it's needed.
I only have 3 skirts. and 2 of them are ugly...the other is a high-waisted green a-line. Fabulous, but I'd like something neutral.

I think i'm going to keep mah eyes peeled for a LBD...its one of the last essentials I don't own (besides a white oxford shirt...shocking, I know. But I don't have a just plain one.) Or just look for a dress I can dress up and down (which can be a LBD...). In a color. Something fun. Something inexpensive.

This beauty has been on my mind......
Sure its not exactly high-fashion but you know what? It's cute. It's fun. It's youthful.

But then again, it was love at first sight when I saw this in the catalogue....

OSCAR 2010 FASHION

I love the Oscars!!!! But sadly, I have never done an actual blog post on the fashion!!!!!!!! So, here I go. This is all my opinion on the looks that caught my eye.
NOTE: I do not own any of the photographs.

KRISTEN STEWART:

DESIGNER:Monique Lhuillier.

First off: LOVE the dress. Love the color on her. It fits her very nice, and it's a refreshing change to her is usual rocker look. But please, ACCESSORIZE!! This look is screaming for a great necklace or earrings!!!!!!!

RACHEL MCADAMS:

DESIGNER: Elie Saab Couture

When I saw this dress on TV Sunday night, I just about screamed. The colors look absolutely stunning against her complexion, and the bodice is so graceful!!! But once again, she needs a necklace!!! Love the earrings, but she needs that extra pow!

MILEY CYRUS:

DESIGNER: Jenny Packham

Her makeup and hair was so elegant and so chic!!! I'm not a fan of the bodice on her dress, but I love the empire waist and bottom half of the gown. I don't understand the lack of necklaces so far, come on people, now is your chance to glam it up a bit!!!

AMANDA SEYFRIED:

DESIGNER: Giorgio Armani

I love the architecture of this gown. I was a bit hesitant on the bodice, but now I've fallen in love with it. I could defiantly live without that chunky cuff bracelet, though...It seems like an after thought. Never a good thing.

SARAH JESSICA PARKER:

DESIGNER: Chanel

What happened here...? I'm sorry but this is just WEIRD. As much as I love Sarah Jessica, I hate this. HATE IT. The strap is in a strange position and looks like its strangling her. What's with the rock glued on just below her butt? Seriously? I don't know what went wrong........but this is just sad. I love her jewelry...but hate the dress (obviously).

TINA FEY:

DESIGNER: Michael Kors.

I'm not crazy about this. At all. I don't like the nude under the black.....ick. That's all I'm going to say. Ick.

SANDRA BULLOCK:

I don't understand whats so fabulous about this gown. Sure, its pretty. It's gold. It's nice. But it's nothing special. Her hair is blahh as well as her makeup. Meh.

CAMERON DIAZ:

Designer: Oscar de la Renta

This dress is a revolution. I CANNOT EXPLAIN IN SIMPLE TEXT HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS DRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And her hair!!! Her hair is GORGEOUS!!! LOVE her makeup, that red lip is a classic!!! 20 BAZILLION STARS!!!!!!!

MERYL STREEP:

Designer: Chris March

This dress is so classy and so age-appropriate. The draping around the neckline is spot-on. The color is super flattering and just plain beautiful.

1 Goat = 23 Horses

Wow....Its been awhile!!! Life just has been so crazy lately...I haven't had time to blog.
okok, so maybe its not SUPER crazy and I have had time to blog....its just that it takes SO much effort!!

Since the last time I posted, a few exciting things have happened:

1) Four days ago I got my phone upgraded...goodbye LG Rumor, HELLO BLACKBERRY CURVE!!!

2)I am designing costumes for yet another production, only this time, its a musical. Ever heard of 'The Big Bad Musical'? But more of that later. :D

3)I have become an expert on Native Americans.

4)I made the CUTEST sock bunny on earth.

ummm...yeah. I know it doesn't seem like all that much, but it kinda is. LOL.

One of my close friends is turning 17 on Wednesday!!! 17!!!! I remember when we went to the mall for her 13th birthday.....THOSE WERE THE DAYS. :' )

Ok....now onto the musical thing. So the theme is modern-day...not fairytale. Which is awesome. I was so excited to hear the words, "ok, we will just go with modern" come out of Laurie's mouth yesterday. Grinning I answered, "You will NOT be disappointed!!"
I am stoked. Everyone is going to be absolutely fabulous!!
I started sketching like 5 days ago....but I haven't picked out a color pallet yet. Which is kinda a problem...well idk.
I like to have color pallets....it makes everything look more harmonious.

Well, I think my 10 minutes of blabbering is about up......I'm planning on posting a thing on different ways to wear a boyfriend blazer!! So stay tuned. (Seriously....stay tuned. I'm not going to flake out...I WILL-LORD willing- POST THIS.)

February 13, 2010

the truth- it hurts.

Devistated.
You know when you look up to someone and their actions and beliefs crush you down?
That's what happened.

I never really knew if he was gay or not...there obviously was a bit of fairy dust about him....but it didn't seem so severe.

Obviously, if you didn't already know, I am STRONGLY against homosexuals. Very.
I don't give a crap what you think about that, that's the truth. That's me. That's G-D's view.

But I stucked it up typing it into the google search bar, praying he wasn't.
He was.
Openly.
My heart sunk below my ribs, face falling into a frown. Eyebrows knitting together, I furiously scrolled down, hoping someone would say 'no'.
No one said no.

My mind is telling me 'it's his designs....not the designer.' well guess what?! shut up mind, your leading me into horrible paths of accepting something so...so HORRID. Something the opposite of what G-D wants...it's telling me things that the world wants us to know. 'that it's ok.'
GUESS WHAT? IT'S NOT.

Take a wild guess of who I'm speaking of.

This is hard.
And only about 7% of you would understand.
The rest would not, and protest.

A TO Z FASHION SURVEY

A necklace. usually.
It's either a vintage braided chain necklace or (before it broke) a black gem one.

B: What is your beauty routine?
I use the ultra-amazing PCA Skin care line from my dear cousin Kelly.
First I rinse my face with water, then apply the facial wash (from PCA skin), do that blahblahblabh remove makeup, but on like 12,000 different kinds of moisturizers (so annoying) then...yeah.
LOL sorry it's kinda long and it's also kinda a secret. :)

C: What was the last item of clothing (for yourself) that you purchased?
My Micahel by Michael Kors trench (well..I still have to give my motheran $20 bucks back...haha)

My favorite pair; angel wing earrings my friends mom bought me 2 years ago.

F: What type of figure do you have (measurements)?

P: What is your favorite perfume?
Michael Kors Very Hollywood.

Q: Is your motto "quality over quantity" when it comes to clothing and accessories?

i love getting stuff in the REAL mailbox!!!

Especially fashion magazines.

I'm starting to plan a photo-shoot. (shocker, right?). But this shoot will be different from my others. This one is head shots, focusing on bright & bold makeup.
Beauty shots.

Speaking of the photo-shoot, I need to call the makeup artist!!!! And who would that be? Pat McGrath!!!
Just kidding...sadly.
It's Allison. Who does an equally amazing job, no doubt but ya know...Pat is something... :)
Well, that's all you guys get to know for now!
The performance is tomorrow. And I must say- everyone looks FAB!!! The colors all flow together, tying in PERFECTLY.
I mean- perfectly.

Ok so Oscar de la Renta's Spring 2010 RTW collection?
BREATH OF FRESH AIR!
It's as if I was in a sea of sequins, mini dresses, leather skirts, platforms, neon and studs and the collection pulled me out, reviving me to life with breathtaking colors, silks, small doses of patent leather, chic belts and those fantastic hats.

shorts with tights?

Ok so I know how some people think its 'silly' to wear shorts with tights. how they think that 'if it's cold enough to wear tights, you shouldn't be wearing shorts' kinda thing.

Personally, I love it. I have loved it ever since this summer when I took those beloved fashion classes, where I saw a stylish Asian girl wearing them. (I forgot the rest of her outfit...sorry).

First thing- It depends on the outfit. Wearing the shorts with tights can either make it or break it. You need to have the right kind of tights and the right pair of shorts.
You also have to be able to pull it off. If you can't. Then please, don't do this to yourself.

So today, I decided to take a risk and try it for myself. See If I could pull it off.
I think I did.

What I wore today:

Jacket: Kohls, Shorts: Angels Jeans (I got them like 2 years ago), Sweater: Mossimo Supply Co., Cardigan: Old Navy, Beret: Forever 21, Tights: idk, Necklace: Bebe, Earrings: made them myself. Shoes: (you can't see them...lol. They are just patent faux leather black flats with a silver chain going across the front) Payless.

Yup. This outfit was made up of stuff that I already owned and have owned for like, a gazillion years (like the shorts, tights, and cardigan).

So what's your opinion on wearing tights under shorts? Love it or hate it?
Would you wear it?

Now onto another subject.
Yesterday I bought my first ever normal-daily-wear-non-photoshoot-real-real-real LIPSTICK!!!!
It never really came to mind that I, a meer teen, could wear lipstick.
I don't really know why, now that I think of it.
Maybe the thought of 'lipstick is for grown-ups' was ingrained into my head. But who put that thought there?

Either way, I LOVE it!!! I automatically gravitated towards the Revlon section, where I picked out my PERFECT pink. It's 631 'Luminous Pink'. Once again, I must say that I LOVE it.

It glides on SOOO smoothly and feels great. The only thing that I don't like about it is that It doesn't last very long.
haha, now I want to buy lots of other lipsticks!!! I want a berry! another pink! a fuchsia!!

NOW I SEE WHY MY MOTHER ADORES LIPSTICK SO MUCH.

I never did understand this until last night. (if you didn't know, my mom is a HUGE fan of lip gloss. She has like a million tubes in the car, her purse, at her desk and in her makeup bag. Its crazy, but I also love it because I can steal some from her.)

So, in conclusion, I recommend Revlon for lipstick. It's a classic!

January 10, 2010

my nose is running to new hampshire.

I just discovered a wonderful thing. The tissues I am using are shimmery!
To bad I am blowing mucus into it.

I didn't go yesterday. I was sick.
I'm still sick.
Being sick sucks.
I'm still coughing but now my coughs are more...limp.
If that makes any sense at all.

I'm not really up to posting a big report on what's in fashion this spring like I was hoping to. Sorry, charlie.

January 8, 2010

northface jacket + uggs + sweatpants = fashion disaster

I don't understand it.

I see lots of girls with this combo on, thinking and trying to be stylish, dressing their body completely wrong, drowning themselves in fabric. Uggs make your feet look huge. Sweatpants should never be worn out of the house or gym and northface jackets.................must I start?

I am not saying that I hate northface jackets, but EVERYONE is wearing them!!! They are like, outdoors man jackets, not runway material.

If you want to be stylish, then step outside of the mold!! Wear clothes that are chic, not what your friends think is 'cute'.

I mean- how is THIS considered fashion-forward?

I understand that Ugg boots are 'really warm and super cozy' and that the northface jackets are 'easy to put on, warm and comfortable.' But I mean- people wear this like it's a uniform!

Keep in mind that I am NOT judging you in any way (if you do wear this combo) or saying that my style is 'better' then yours. I just want to know why. WHY would you wear something so un-flattering and un-original. We all have the right to dress how we want but again, WHY?

Great Hair is Good to Have

I wish everyone had great hair.
What’s the point of having nice, healthy hair when it simply just hangs as if it’s a dead, colorless creature that drapes pathetically from your scalp.
Is it really that hard to take a product to your locks?
Apparently so.
I have seen so many people who don’t take pride in such an important aspect of their physical appearance.
I wish everyone would style their hair.

Hair is like a glimpse at your heart. (Along with clothing, no doubt).
If you just have un-styled, un-cut long hair that’s parted down the middle people may look at you and not really notice anything about your appearance, just that you must be basic and boring.
If you have pin-straight, scene-teased hair (along with heavy eyeliner and neon clothing) people will look at you and think you’re a lazy, irresponsible teen.
But if you have great, voluminous, styled, AMAZING hair, people will look at you twice, knowing that you have confidence in yourself and that you must style.

You can still reflect who you are and what your personal style is, just in a way that looks more refined.
If you like more edgy cuts then skip the big, 80’s hair and opt for a sleeker, asymmetrical bob. If you still are craving color, ask your hair dresser to blend the color more in. Or go for extensions.
If you’re more of an easy-breezy kind of girl when it comes to fashion and want a hairstyle that you do practically nothing to, go for a cut that is just below the shoulders with plenty of layers. Use pretty headbands to keep the hair from falling in your face.
Then there are those of you who over-style your hair to the point of no return.
Keep the cut itself simple and versatile. Limit yourself to the amount of products you dump on your hair and never forget hair accessories.
Let your hair support your personality, not be it.

Yes, it’s not always good to judge people by how they look but as humans, we do. It’s how you present yourself that’s important and hair is a big part of that.
Remember to let your hair reflect who you really are, not what its saying you want to be.

If only everyone put three times as much effort into styling their hair as they do now, imagine how stylish the world would be.

PARsnip, parsnip, parsnip.

well um....my break didn't go as I planned. It was fun, but I made 0 bags.
sad day.

"I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. But he who disowns me before men will be disowned before the angels of God. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven."
~Luke 12:8-10
Something that annoys me? when 'believers' take the LORD's name in vain. I mean, HELLO PEOPLE!! DO YOU NOT SAY YOU BELIEVE IN G-D?! If you do then why on EARTH are you talking like that. REALLY?!
no fashion posts today, sorry.
But I am- LORD willing- going to a frannnnn's to shoot pics.
exciting!!!
